ERDC offered eight training workshops in February 2009, attended by 159 personnel from 74 institutions.

These workshops are:

  1. Understanding Children with Special Needs

  2. Into the Realms of Reading

  3. Imtihani parchay ki tayyari aur janch

  4. Guidelines for Making a Good Test Paper

  5. Project Work in Science

  6. Improving Parent-teacher Interaction

  7. Cooperative Learning

  8. Effective Questioning Skills

Understanding Children with Special Needs was a two-day (6 hours) workshop held on February 2 & 4, 2009. 19 teachers from 9 institutions participated in the workshop. This workshop was led by Mr Salman Asif Siddiqui, director ERDC. The workshop was a unique opportunity for parents and teachers of all level to learn how to cater needs of special Children. The workshop was a complete resource to handle, help and facilitate the child who needs special care.

Into the Realms of Reading was a three-day (9 hours) workshop held on February 5 - 7, 2009. 8 teachers from 3 institutions participated in the workshop. This workshop was led by Ms Arwa Khuzaima, visiting faculty ERDC. The workshop was to for pre primary teachers to make reading a pleasurable and mesmerizing learning experience for young learners.

Imtihani parchay ki tayyari aur janch was a three-day (9 hours) workshop held on February 9, 11 & 12, 2009. 12 teachers from 8 institutions participated in the workshop. This workshop was led by Mr Zubair Hussain Shaikh, faculty ERDC. The workshop was designed for Urdu, Islamiyat and Social Studies teachers of upper primary and secondary grades to learn critical analyses of test papers and to know the characteristics of a good test paper. The participants were asked to bring some test papers and their text books along.

Guidelines for Making a Good Test Paper was a two-day (6 hours) workshop held on February 13 & 14, 2009. 27 teachers from 8 institutions participated in the workshop. This workshop was led by Ms Kanwal Laeeq, faculty ERDC. The workshop was designed for teachers of primary and secondary grades to learn the characteristics of a good and bad test paper. The participants were given ideas to develop their own test items bank. Participants went through the steps of making a good test paper.

Project Work in Science was a three-day (9 hours) workshop held on February 19, 20 & 23, 2009. 26 teachers from 15 institutions participated in the workshop. This workshop was led by Ms Kanwal Laeeq, faculty ERDC. The workshop was an opportunity for teachers of primary and secondary grades to learn the aims and objectives of project based learning. The group experienced the art of using common material in planning and executing a project. The workshop also highlighted the role of a Science teacher as a project manager.

Improving Parent-Teacher Interaction was a one-day (4 hours) workshop held on February 21, 2009. 27 teachers from 14 institutions participated in the workshop. This workshop was led by Mr Salman Asif Siddiqui, Director ERDC. The workshop was a unique opportunity for teachers of all levels to learn the importance of effective and meaningful communication with parents. It helped them to learn to handle difficult parents and better ways to communicate their expectations to parents.

Cooperative Learning was a two-day (6 hours) workshop held on February 26 & 27, 2009. 9 teachers from 4 institutions participated in the workshop. This workshop was led by Ms Rakshanda Ovais, visiting faculty ERDC. The workshop was an opportunity for primary and secondary grades teachers to learn and apply classroom activities that facilitate cooperative learning.

Effective Questioning Skills was a one-day (4 hours) workshop held on February 28, 2009. 31 teachers from 13 institutions participated in the workshop. This workshop was led by Ms Kanwal Laeeq, Project Manager and Master Trainer ERDC. The workshop was an opportunity for primary and secondary grade teachers to master the techniques of effective questioning skills.

Under graduates of Professional Teachers’ Certificate Course Winter Program 2008 presented their 1st Book Review.
When the participants were asked what are the three best things they learnt from the course.
They said love for books.
1st book review was presented by all the participants on the book they borrowed from the ERDC library at the beginning of the course which was led by Salman Asif Siddiqui, Director ERDC.
The ongoing 9th batch of PTCC Winter Program covered two units of the second module-‘The Contents of Teaching’. Ms Tabussum Razi, Master Trainer ERDC conducted the course unit English Language Teaching and Sir. Zubair Sheikh, Project Manager and Master Trainer of ERDC led the course Urdu Language Teaching. The participants had an interactive workshop in the English Language Teaching unit in which they enthusiastically planned and developed activities for English Language. A poetry making activity was conducted in the Urdu Language Teaching unit in which the participants made parodies of the existing poetries.

ERDC conducted workshop on Excel in Exams for the students of Sir Adamjee Institute.

On the request of Sir Adamjee Institute, ERDC conducted a workshop “Excel in Exams”. The workshop was conducted on January 26 ,2009 by Mr.Salman Asif Siddiqui, Director ERDC and attended by the college students and teachers(an audience of 250). The workshop gave the audience a clear understanding of how to prepare for exams and how to attempt a paper.

Vision Building Exercise, Workshop on Assessment Techniques, and Off-site at Sandspit for Bulandi School Project.


ERDC collaboratively worked with the DELTA group to further the Project- Bulandi. A meeting of Delta members with ERDC was arranged on 22 January, 2009.to revisit the visions of Bulandi School Project. A workshop on Assessment Techniques was led by Ms Kanwal Laeeq, Project Manager ERDC. ERDC proposed an offsite at Sandspit on 26th February, 2009 for the Bulandi School teachers. The motto of the off-site activity was to develop Team-Bonding.

The assessment techniques workshop held at Bulandi by Ms. Kanwal Laeeq shared the real goals of assessments and guidelines for making test papers. The response was tremendous, the teachers were seeking forward to learn the most from the workshop.The off-site at Sandspit  had the maximum turn-out of teachers, a remarkable indication of team otivation. The program included two activities an introducing each other activity and team-building activity. Introducing activity developed a keen interest in teachers to know  more about each other . The team-motivation exercise was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. By the end the team was high in spirits.
